Dr. Lisa Wagner

Dr. Wagner looks forward to a long-time relationship with you and your horse's).  The following information should help to familiarize you with Dr. Wagner and the policies of this equine ambulatory.

About Dr. Wagner:

A lifelong native of Montgomery County, Maryland, Dr. Lisa Wagner has more than 12 years of experience in equine veterinary medicine.  She has served the Maryland and Virginia region in recent years as an associate veterinarian with Monocacy Equine Veterinary Associates in MD.  Dr. Wagner earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from the Virginia-Maryland Regional college of Veterinary Medicine.  In addition, she completed a specialized  medicine-surgery rotating internship at the world renowned Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, KY.  She concluded her intern experience with a three-year residency at the esteemed Large Animal Internal Medicine Equine Hospital at the University of California, Davis.  Dr. Wagner is a board-certified Diplomate in Large Animal Internal Medicine, as designated by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.  Dr. Wagner's equine expertise was further enhanced through the certification process for equine acupuncture at the Chi Institute.  She complimented the art of equine acupuncture with focused training in veterinary spinal manipulation at the well-know Healing Oasis Wellness Center.  Dr. Wagner resides in Montgomery county with her family.  As the granddaughter and daughter of dedicated horsewomen, and herself an accomplished event rider and former A-rated pony club member, Dr. Wagner looks forward to watching her children grown into fourth generation equestrians.

The Wagner Equine Veterinary Services' office phone number is 301-355-6990 and is available 24 horse a day for your non-urgent messages and scheduling of routine appointments.  This message system unit will be monitored throughout the day and your call will be returned as soon as possible.  Please understand that non-urgent calls left in the late afternoon or evening hours may not be returned until the next business day.  If you have an emergency, please contact Dr.Wagner directly at 301-525-5024.  Your voice mail message on this line will be returned promptly.

Scheduling of  Routine Appointments:

To schedule routine appointment, please call 301-355-0669.  Appointments will be scheduled Monday through Friday between the hours of 8AM and 4:30PM.  If necessary, appointments may be scheduled during off-hours and on weekends; however, prior arrangement must be made with Dr. Wagner.  Please understand that every attempt is made to keep appointments on-schedule.  However, during the day, emergencies may need to be triaged ahead of routine appointments.  If this occurs, you will be notified as soon as possible and given an estimated time of arrival.  Please know that every attempt will be made to avoid the delay of your routine appointment.

Emergency Coverage:

If you have an emergency, please call 301-565-5024.  Emergency coverage is available for established clients 24 hours-a-day, 365 days-a-year.  An "established client" is defined as a client for whom Wagner Equine Veterinary Services performs all veterinary care, including annual vaccinations.  We will always welcome new clients, as such a horse owner may request emergency coverage at any time; however, established clients will receive priority coverage if there is a scheduling conflict.  Newly establsihed clients will be required to pay for emergency coverage at the time of service with no exceptions granted.  Emergency calls should be made with the following information in hand in order to assist Dr. Wagner assess your situation as efficiently as possible:

  1. Your name and phone number(s) where you can be reached.  Please state the phone numbers slowly and clearly, repeating them two times.

  2. The horse's name and location.  Be prepared to give directions if necessary.

  3. A detailed description of the issues.

  4. If possible, the horse's vital signs: heart rate, respiratory rate, and temperature.  It is strongly recommended that all horse owners be prepared with an emergency first aid kit, in their barn and/or horse trailer.  If you need help putting a kit together, please talk to Dr. Wagner. 

Cancellation of Appointments:

If you must cancel a routine appointment, kindly give Dr. Wagner 24 hours notice.  If you must cancel an emergency appointment, please notify Dr. Wagner as soon as possible.  Please leave messages regarding cancellation on both the office phone and the cell phone.  If the appointment is cancelled prior to Dr. Wagner's departure for the call, you will not be charged a cancellation fee.  However, if Dr. Wagner is enroute or arrive at the farm, you will be assessed a "no-show" fee which consists of a farm call charge for routine scheduling or an emergency charge during emergency hours. 

Payment Policy:

Payment in-full at the time of service is requested.  However, for established clients, services can be billed if necessary.  Cash, check, VISA, Mastercard, and DISCOVER are all acceptable forms of payment.  For your convenience, your credit card information can be securely kept on-file at the office.  Your credit card will be charged for services with your expressed approval and you will be informed of the amount to be charged prior to each transaction.  Accounts not paid in-full by 30 days will be charged an interest rate of 1.5% per month on the balance due, and any additional services must be charge to a valid credit card or paid via cash or check a the time of service.  Invoices for services rendered will be provided for you at the time of service or mailed to you  within 1-2 days.
